Quote of the day: “Mindset, habits, and routines are the building blocks for success toward your wellness goals.”
I love having a routine. I think it’s so important to have a healthy morning routine, something that works for you and something that makes your day start off really well! I personally really like mornings and prefer to get my sh** done earlier in the day vs. the evening if possible. When I was in college, some mornings I would wake up at 5:30 am and crank out homework or I would go to the gym at 6:00 am.
When I started working, I had to create a new morning routine that allowed me to get the most out of my day. I work past 5:00 pm 80% of the time, so I’ve had to figure out whether I wanted to go to the gym in the mornings or after work. Before I give too much away, here’s my entire morning routine:
Morning Routine
5:30 am: I wake up at 5:30 am almost every work day (occasionally I am way too lazy). I don’t necessarily like waking up this early because I’m freaking exhausted and want to sleep in, but I know that I NEED to go to the gym before work or I might not get the opportunity to go later (sometimes we don’t get off work until 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm).
6:00 am: I make sure to get to the gym by 6:00 am to allow myself to workout for an hour. The gym is honestly a lot busier than I thought it would be… lots of older men. I usually try and get in at least 30 minutes of cardio whether that be by running on treadmill or doing a ride on Peloton. After cardio, I either lift or do some core. I don’t really have an exact workout routine and never go in knowing exactly what I want to do. Occasionally, some mornings I will go to a Pilates class at MNT Studio. Read about my experience here.
7:10 am: Once I get home from the gym, I immediately hop in the shower. I’m not really a fan of showering in the morning, but I definitely don’t want to go to work sweaty. That’s actually funny because if you know me, you know I used to go to class sweaty all the time in college. I’ve really been loving my Clarisonic…makes my skin feel super clean and soft!

7:30 am: After the shower and after I’m dressed, I ALWAYS make my bed. To me, there’s nothing worse than coming home to a messy room and an unmade bed. There’s something about it that really stresses me out. Making your bed literally takes no more than 2 minutes…so why not do it?
7:40 am: Ah time for breakfast! I seriously love breakfast more than any other meal. I will typically have either eggs or a smoothie. I’ve really been liking this one chocolate smoothie that includes coconut milk, cacao powder, cacao nibs, banana, unsweetened coconut shreds, and vanilla. It is soooo chocately and just a great way to start my day! I will also either make myself a matcha latte or my mom will make me some green juice.
7:50 am: Fortunately for me, my mom makes my lunch every day. Thank you mom! It saves me a lot of time in the morning because it’s just once less thing I have to do. I like having salad for lunch or pastrami sandwiches…so yummy!
8:00 am: I try to leave the house at 8:00 am, but definitely no later than 8:07 am. Lately, I’ve been able to leave my house slightly later because of COVID-19. Everyone is starting to work from home, so the freeway is practically empty! It’s crazy. I really love the Carrie to work… I just sing my heart out. I’ve been really loving “Dive” by Ed Sheeran and “Not Ready to Make Nice” by the Dixie Chicks.
8:30 am: If I get to work a few minutes early, I sit in my car and mentally prepare to go into the office…I’m so dramatic. I just like to take a few more minutes of serenity and loneliness before I have to go interact with people.
Well that’s what my morning looks like 5 days a week. I think I have a really good morning routine…it’s my night routine that needs to get better. I’m still working on it. What’s your morning routine look like?
