One of my New Year Resolutions for 2019 is to live a non-toxic lifestyle. I don’t think this is something you can do over night, but I think it is definitely something to think about and try to do.
My mom has always been a big believer of using non-toxic, harmless products. She has always tried pushing them onto my sister and I, but we would just push back and refuse. It wasn’t until recently, where my mind was changed. I do believe that living a non-toxic life is one of the best things you can do for yourself as well as the people you live with. People believe that the bad things will cause diseases, but they don’t believe that the good things will prevent them. I believe in the good things and I am going to share everything I’ve learned from beginning this journey.
One of the first products I got rid of was my deodorant. Before, I used “Secret” deodorant because the smell was nice and it seemed to do the job…plus it was cheap. After doing research, I knew I needed a non-toxic deodorant. A lot of deodorants contain toxins that mess with one’s hormones. One of the main ingredients in many deodorants is aluminum. Aluminum helps block sweat glands, but is also linked to breast cancer. Why would you want to put this stuff on your body knowing that. I now use Primally Pure Charcoal Deodorant and let me tell you, it’s the best natural deodorant I’ve ever tried. It works great and smells great and the best part…it’s totally safe!
I also switched to this hand sanitizer from Young Living. This sanitizer has natural ingredients that are all normal and I am able to pronounce all of them. The ingredients are not sketchy at all…and that’s exactly what you should look for in all your products.
Shampoos are really hard to find. Typically people buy shampoos based on smell…at least that’s what I did. I would go to Target and smell all the shampoos and end up choosing one that smells like coconut. My mom kept telling me to look for shampoos that don’t contain sulfates or parabens. I had no clue what those were before, but now I do. Sulfates are very toxic to the body and have a mutagenic property. Parabens are used as a preservative to prevent bacteria growth. I switched to the Young Living shampoo because it doesn’t contain sulfates or parabens.
Your skin is the largest organ of your body, so it needs to be taken care of properly. Applying random chemicals to your skin can cause so many diseases and has really bad effects to your health. Artificial dyes and synthetic colors are used all the time to make products look more appealing, when in reality they’re just so harmful. I have been loving the company, Herbivore. They are really transparent and use only the best ingredients. Their products do not include parabens, phthalates, sulfates, etc. They only include products that will actually be beneficial to the skin.
Lastly, I want to talk about candles. Candles smell amazing and can make your house smell like each season. They are also really fun to decorate a room with. But candles are air pollutants. The air that candles omit is basically as bad as second-hand smoking. Candles are made of paraffin wax. Paraffin release toxins that are the same as diesel. Have you ever burned a candle and realized you had a headache, but didn’t know the cause? Well the cause is the candle and the toxins it’s releasing into the air. Get rid of your candles and get a diffuser. Essential Oils are so much better than candles and they even smell amazing too. Ditch the toxins and save your family and yourself!
These are two other products I have been absolutely loving. I still have a long way to go for living a completely toxic free life. I want to switch my makeup, laundry soap, and house cleaner. There is so much you can do to live a non-toxic life, you just have to do your research.
I believe going non-toxic is one of the best things you can do for yourself, so why not start now? I am going to make a conscious effort to no use harmful products because I love myself and I want the best for myself and you should too! Make sure to check out all these products…they’re amazing!
